Kabul guesthouse assault ends as 4 attackers killed
KABUL (Pajhwok): The coordinated attack on a guesthouse in the upscale Wazir Akbar Khan locality of capital Kabul ended with the killing of all four fighters by security forces, an official said on Wednesday.
A group of four armed fighters stormed Hetal guesthouse at around 11: 00 pm on Tuesday night, and the ensuing gun battle lasted till 5: 00 am Wednesday morning.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) spokesman Sediq Sediqi told Pajhwok Afghan News all the attackers were killed during the firefight.
He praised the Afghan security forces for swift action to dislodge fighters without inflecting casualties on civilians. Neither civilians nor Afghan security forces suffered casualties in the hours long clash, he added.
Abdul Basir a resident of the area said that the fighters also used hand grenades in the fight.
The guesthouse belonged to the family of former High Peace Council (HPC) head Burhanuddin Rabbani and was popular with foreigners.
Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack. Four years ago, the hotel came under similar attack.
