KABULinfo-icon/JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Intelligence operatives have detained 10 militants belonging to the Haqqani networkinfo-icon in southeastern Paktia province.

The National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) in a statement in Kabul said the 10-member group was detained during a series of operations in the province.

It said the group, led by Abdul Wahab, had been involved in terrorist activities and assassinations of government officials in the provincial capital, Gardez, and nearby areas.

Elsewhere, three militants were killed and another two wounded during two separate clashes with security forces in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said.

Nangarhar police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal said a group of insurgents stormed security posts in the Toor Ghar area of the Hesarak district on Saturday, but faced with stiff resistance from the local police personnel.

The clash left two attackers dead, but the local police personnel escaped unhurt, he said. He said a third militant was killed and two Pakistani militants were injured during a clash with security forces in Wazir area of the Khogyani district.

The police spokesman said 50 kilograms of chars had been recovered from a car in the Sara Rud district. The driver had been arrested and was currently being questioned.

The Talibaninfo-icon have so far said nothing about these incidents.
