9 rebels eliminated in Faryab clash
MAIMANA/ ASADABAD (Pajhwok): At least nine insurgents, including two Uzbek fighters, were killed and 15 others wounded in clashes in the Qaisar district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Monday.
The gun battle erupted after militants mounted attacks on security forces’ check posts, spokesman for 209th Shahin Military Corp said. Security officials and civilians escaped unhurt in the clashes.
But Ahmad Javed Qaisari, an elder of the locality, said a rickshaw driver was killed and a 12-year-old girl wounded when a rocket hit a house in the area.
He added Taliban kidnapped the slain teacher four days ago and his body was recovered Sunday night with a letter in which the slain teacher was accused of spying.
Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai confirmed the incident and termed it an un-Islamic and inhuman act.
