Protesters want Sharan mayor sacked

Protesters want Sharan mayor sacked

Jun 02, 2015 - 19:01

SHARAN (Pajhwok): A number of protesters in southeastern Paktika province on Tuesday held a huge demonstration, demanding immediate removal of mayor of Sharan, the provincial capital.

Abdul Hameed, a protester, accused mayor of involvement in corruption. He told Pajhwok Afghan News the mayor was taking bribe from people by one or another pretext. The mayor also damaged the old master plan.

Pacha Khan Sharanwal, another protester and tribal elder, said the master plan for Paktika province would not be implemented until the current mayor was serving on the position.

However, Mayor Ubaidullah Saadat said people gathered in protest trying to serve their personal interests.

Saadat said he had organized plan for implementing the master plan but some people prevented it due to their personal demands.

“I totally reject every accusation leveled against me. Some people are opposing me for their personal reason and interests,” he informed.

Haji Rafiq, another municipality’s official, said the protest was held as a result of personal differences with mayor by some people.

All the affairs in the municipality are going fine and the mayor have never tried to create differences among tribes, he remarked.
