Teachers strike closes schools in Shindand

Teachers strike closes schools in Shindand

Jun 04, 2015 - 11:23

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Almost all schools have been closed in the Shindand district of western Herat province due to teachers’ strike, an official said on Thursday.

Abdul Azim Khandan, monitoring and evaluation official at the provincial educationinfo-icon department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the teachers were on strike because they had not been paid salaries since January 2015.

He added girls’ schools had already been closed by Talibaninfo-icon while boys’ schools were recently closed. “Taliban wanted to impose their curriculum in boys’ schools. The residents did not comply with and preferred closing the schools instead.”

Khandan said there were around 115 schools in the district and almost all had been shut
