Daikundi gets first female governor
KABUL (Pajhwok): A female has been appointed for the first time as the governor of central Daikundi province, the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) said on Friday.
A statement from the IDLG said Masooma Muradi had been appointed as the governor of Daikundi and Mohammad Anwar Ishaqzai as the governor of southern Zabul province.
The statement added President Ashraf Ghani had approved their appointments and that both the new governors were highly qualified and well-versed in administrative affairs
The IDLG hoped that both the newly-appointed governors would play a positive role in development of their respective provinces.
Earlier, Habiba Surabi was the first woman to be appointed as the governor of central Bamyan province, but she had resigned to take part in last year’s presidential elections.
Currently, the mayor of Neili city, the capital of Daikundi province and Faizabad district chief of Jawzjan province are women.
