Nangarhar governor’s convoy comes under attack
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A convoy of vehicles carrying the governor came under attack from insurgents on Wednesday in the Momand Dara district of eastern Nangarhar province, a public representative said.
Zabihullah Zamarai, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack took place around 10.30am on the Jalalabad-Torkham highway.
The attack followed a clash between the insurgents and police escorting the convoy of Governor Salim Khan Kunduzi.
A security official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News one policeman was killed and another was wounded in the attack.
Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, the governor’s spokesman, however, denied any attack had taken place on the governor’s motorcade.
He said a police vehicle escorting the convoy had crashed in the Momand Dara district, injuring three personnel.
