3 NDS officials, district attorney killed

Jun 11, 2015 - 16:17

ZARANJ/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Three intelligence officials, two Talibaninfo-icon militants and a district attorney have been killed in separate incidents in Faryab and Nimroz provinces, officials said on Thursday.

Nimroz National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) chief Maj. Rahmatullah Nasir told Pajhwok Afghan News the three NDS personnel, including an officer, were killed by Taliban in the Dilaram district.

The three were on a patrol in Dilaram district centre on Wednesday afternoon when Taliban gunmen opened fire at their car.

The ensuing clash left three NDS officials and two Taliban attackers dead, he said.

An NDS official, who wished anonymity, confirmed the incident and the casualties. He said a third Taliban man was wounded in the clash.

Elsewhere, a landmine blast killed the appellant court attorney for Tagab district and the district electricity deputy chief and three others in Faryab province on Thursday.

Sayed Luqman Gohrek, the Sherin Tagab district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the injured included the district electricity department deputy, the head of Junbish party youth wing and two others.

Hamidullah, the attorney, and Faizullah Khomar, the electricity official, were on their way to work when the magnetic bomb attached to Khomar’s vehicle went off at 8:30am.

He said Khomar was in stable condition, but two others injured persons were said to be in critical condition and had been shifted to a hospital in Maimana, the provincial capital.

Provincial attorney Habibullah Wasiq confirmed the Sherin Tagab attorney’s death in the blast, blaming it on Taliban militants.

The provincial electricity department head, Sayed Abdul Hamid, said Khomar was deputy head of the power sub-station for Tagab and Dawlat Abad districts. He was injured along with two other employees in the blast, he said.

Provincial council member Abdul Ahad Aelbek strongly condemned the incident and called Hamidullah, the district attorney, as a loyal, honest and experienced person.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
