6 militants killed in Kunar clash

ASADABAD/QALAT (Pajhwok): Six militants were killed and several others, including civilians and security personnel, were wounded during separate incidents of violence in Kunar and Zabul provinces, officials said on Wednesday.

Kunar police chief Abdul Habib Syedkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News armed insurgents attacked security posts in the Marawara district on Wednesday morning. Six attackers were killed and four others were wounded when the police and Afghan army personnel retaliated, he said.

Two ANA soldiers and as many policemen were wounded during the clash that also left three civilians wounded, the police chief said.

A Talibaninfo-icon spokesman in the district, Qari Zia Rahman, said two security posts were destroyed and two vehicles and a large quantity of weapons were seized from the security forces during the attacks. He rejected if their fighters were killed.

Also on Wednesday morning, five rockets were fired into the provincial capital, Asadabad, but there were no casualties. Syedkhel said one of the rockets landed on the backside of the governor’s house and a second in front of the municipality.

Elsewhere, five civilians were wounded when the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in the Shahr-i-Safa district of southern Zabul province on Wednesday noon.

Police spokesman Ahmad Fawad Askari said the blast took place in the Khwaja Baba area, leaving four civilians injured. He said the civilians had been shifted to hospital and their condition was said to be stable.

He said a child was wounded in a separate blast in Garm Ab area near the provincial capital, Qalat.
