Scores dead, wounded in Hizb-e-Islami, Taliban clash
MAIDAN SHAHAR (Pajhwok): An unknown number of casualties reported on both sides following armed clash between fighters of Hizb-e-Islami and Taliban militants in central Maidan Wardak province on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesman said.
Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News fierce fighting erupted in Karimdad locality of Narkh district.
The gun battle started at around 4: 00 am but it got intensified after 9: 00 am amid fear of heavy casualties on both sides, he added.
As per information till noon, one fighter of Hizb-e-Islami and four Taliban militants had been killed, he said, adding that six Taliban were wounded in the face-off.
Qudratullah, a resident of the district, said that both the groups had been clashing time and again for years in the area.
Taliban insurgents, he said had great influx in recent days and seized a number of localities from Hizb-e-Islami fighters.
