1st woman judge nominated to SC high council
As per presidential decree, “article 64, clause 12 of the constitution of Afghanistan, female judges can be appointed. She shall have a higher education in law or in Islamic jurisprudence, and shall have sufficient expertise and experience in the judicial system of Afghanistan.”
According to presidential decree, the minister for parliamentary affairs has been tasked to introduce the female judge to Wolesi Jirga for vote of confidence.
It merits mention that for the first time in the history of Afghanistan a female judge is being appointed as Supreme Court high council member.
The Supreme Court is composed of nine members who are appointed by the President for a period of ten years with the approval of the Wolesi Jirga with observance of the provisions of last paragraph of the Article 50 and article 118 of this Constitution.
Three members are appointed for a period of four years, three members for seven years and three members for ten years. Later appointments will be for a period of ten years.
The President appoints one of its members as the Head of the Supreme Court.
