Troops drawdown be based on security conditions: US Senate
Washington, WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The US Senate has passed the national defense authorization act which seeks that the drawdown of troops from Afghanistan be based on security conditions on the ground.
The USD612 billion defense bill expresses the sense of the Senate the drawdown of US forces in Afghanistan should be based on security conditions within Afghanistan as well as US interests in that region of the world.
The US House of Representatives has already passed the bill. Since the two bills have difference it would require a conference between the two chambers of the US Congress before it can go to the US President for it to be signed into law.
“The legislation authorizes nearly USD3.8 billion in support for Afghan Security Forces as they continue to defend their country and the gains of the last decade against our common enemies,” Senator John McCain said on the Senate floor.
