Kuchi tribesman killed in Wardak clash

MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): One Kuchiinfo-icon tribesman was killed and another was wounded during a clash with local residents in the Behsud district of central Maidan Wardak province.

The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident was reported on Sunday to Governor Hayatullah Hayat by Kuchi elders during a meeting.

Kuchi representative Mohammad Humayun said the clash between Kuchi tribesmen and local residents took place in Seyah Sang area of the Behsud-1 district last night.

He said the locals had warned Kuchi people to leave the area as soon as possible or be ready for dire consequences.

Khogyani said the Kuchi elders urged the governor to find a permanent solution to the problem. He said the governor expressed his deep sorrow over the incident.

He quoted the governor as saying he was aware of the incident and had an emergency meeting with security officials to keep the situation calm until a solution was found to the issue.

Hayat said a jirgainfo-icon comprising impartial members from both the sides would be constituted to permanently resolve the conflict.

The conflict between Kuchi tribesmen and local Hazara community over the central lands of Afghanistaninfo-icon has been ongoing since the early 18 th century.

The conflicts have left tens of people dead, hundreds injured and thousands internally displaced in recent years.
