12-member Taliban group busted in Helmand
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A 12 members group of Taliban, including a notorious commander, was detained during search operation in southern Helmand, security official said on Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. Nabi Jan Mulakhail, provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces arrested a group of militants including commander Sher Agha during search operation on Monday night in Sangin district.
Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed search operation was ongoing and said security forces had great successes but he did not have exact information.
Majid Akhundzada, provincial council member, also confirmed military operation in the area but said that several areas were insecure despite carrying out military operation.
Taliban rebels have not commented on the incident as of yet.
Meanwhile, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, Taliban spokesman, said Janan, commander of Afghan Local Police (ALP), was killed the other day along with three other security officials in a mine blast.
But Helmand security officials rejected Ahmadi’s claim of killing security officials and ALP commander.
