2 road construction company employees shot dead
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday gunned down two employees of a road construction company in northern Jawzjan province, an official said.
Col. Abdul Hafiz Khashi, a senior security official, told Pajhwok Afghan News the employees were killed when they were travelling on Shiberghan – Qoshtapa highway. He said their driver was also among the dead.
Khashi said insurgents also torched two trucks carrying raw materials for the construction company. The drivers managed to escape.
He did not reveal name of the construction company but said only that preliminary work on Shiberghan – Qoshtapa was launched by the public works ministry. Asphalting of the road, he said would start soon.
Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
Last month also on the same highway, a construction company’s vehicle was attacked, leaving one worker dead and seven others wounded.
Commuters often complain about growing insecurity on the vital highway.
Rahmuddin, a resident of Shiberghan, said: “Taliban stop passengers’ cars and ask for identity cards. Taliban would kidnap if someone has government identity card.”
