Govt urged to ensure standard, quality of domestic products

Govt urged to ensure standard, quality of domestic products

Jun 24, 2015 - 18:02

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghanistaninfo-icon Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) on Wednesday expressed concerns over lack of implementation of standards and norms on domestic products.

Some of domestic products were returned from foreign countries due to lack of quality, it said.

Domestic products would compete in global markets if they were at par with international standards, the ACCI added.

In order to resolve the issue, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Atiqullah Nasrat, head of the ACCI, and the Norms and Standard Department director Popalzai Popal.

Under the MoU, Nasrat said the ACCI was tasked to train producers about the pros of standards and help them in their trade development.

He urged private sector to invest in laboratories inside the country in order to ensure better quality of domestic products.

Popalzai said the MoU was aimed at evaluating, capacity building in production sector, improvement of exports and access to worldinfo-icon markets.

Khan Jan Alkozai, the ACCI deputy head, told Pajhwok Afghan News it was responsibility of the private sector to ensure safety of employees in trade and manufacturing sector to restore people’s trust and to improve production and trade.

“We want the norms and standards that have been adopted by the government to reach to traders and producers through conferences and meetings. They should also ensure quality in their products in order to gain people’s trust,” he added.

Alokozai said some medicines were being imported illegally from Pakistaninfo-icon and Iran and measure were needed to prevent the practice.
