Gold, floor prices down in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The prices of gold and food have dipped while other items’ rates remained unchanged during the outgoing week in the capital Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Mohammad Fawat, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold fell from 2,050 to 2,000afs and the price of same quantity of the Russian variety from 1,650afs to 1,600afs.

Fazal Rahman, the Food Traders' Union head, said a 50-kiogram sack of Pakistani flour accounted for 1,230 afghanis, compared to 1,250 afghanis last week.

He said one kg of Vietnamese green tea was priced at 180afs, the same quantity of African black tea at 210afs, 40-kg of Pakistani sugar at 1,620afs and a 16-liters tin of Momin ghee at 950afs, 24-kg of rice 1,550afs -- same rates as last week’s rates.

But a retailer in the Dahan-i-Bagh area of Kabul, Mahmod Khan, sold a 50-kg bag of flour for 1,320afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 1,800afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 1,800afs.

He sold a 16-liter tin of Momin ghee for 1,110afs, a kilo of African black tea for 280afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea for 260afs -- higher than wholesale prices.

The prices of fuel also remained steady but the rate of gas rose. A filling station worker in Wazirabad locality, Abdul Hadi, said one litre of diesel costs 41afs and the same quantity of patrol 42afs, the same rate as last week’s.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta neighborhood, said the rate of one kg of gas was 30afs, the same rate of last week.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said buying rate of one US dollar was 60.70afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 584afs. Last week's exchange value of the dollar stood at 60.70afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 584afs.
