Sport events underway to mark Olympic Day
The events have been launched to improve performance and experience of athletes.
Daad Mohammad Painda Akhtari, deputy head of Olympic Committee, told Pajhwok Afghan News the competitions have started since last three days, opening with Judo and Snooker events in Kabul.
Badminton games also concluded yesterday with Shakib and Omar becoming first and second respectively.
Akhtari said the next events in Kabul would include muay thai, swimming, water polo, basketball, ping pong, tennis, taekwondo, boating, handball, weight lifting, boxing, gymnastics and wushu.
Hoshmand Hamdard, an athlete, stressed holding sports events for progress and development and their better experience.
Sayed Fahim Hashemi, head of the Olympic Committee, shared a post on Facebook: “By marking this day, let’s prove that people of Afghanistan are committed to values of Olympic and that sports are an effective approach to national unity.”
Head of the National Olympic Committee urged people to have active role in raising awareness about environmental, health and cultural issues and persuade youth to take hectic part in sports.
