District chief escapes unhurt in Taliban’s ambush
BAMYAN (Pajhwok): The Shaiber district chief in central Bamyan province said he narrowly escaped Taliban’s ambush on Saturday afternoon.
Mohammad Azim Farid, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was on his way from the city to his district office when militants all in a sudden attacked him.
Militants fired five rockets and opened indiscriminate fire on him, he said, adding that he and his guards escaped unhurt while one of his vehicles got damaged completely.
Soon after the incident, security forces rushed to the area and launched search operation to apprehend the culprits, he added.
Abdul Khaliq, a local resident, confirmed the incident. Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, claimed credit for the botched attempt on district chief life and claimed that the district chief was seriously wounded.
