Arm, drug smugglers apprehended in Balkh
MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Authorities in northern Balkh province have apprehended drug and arms smugglers during an operation in parts of the province, provincial police chief said on Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. Syed Kamal Saadat told Pajhwok Afghan News police nabbed four smugglers who wanted to smuggle four Kalashnikovs from Baghlan to Faryab.
The weapons would be sold to antigovernment forces in the area, he said, adding that police also seized pistol which were used for targeted killings.
Meanwhile, police chief said counternarcotics officials had seized 13.5 kilograms of drugs, four kilograms of hashish and one kilograms of heroine during different operation.
Saadat added one militant was killed and another wounded in the overnight clash. Militants wanted to attack police check post but police gunned them down before they could reach their intended target.
