Civilians among 8 dead in Paktia violence
GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Three civilians were killed in clashes between Taliban and Afghan security forces in the Zamakino district in southeastern Paktia, provincial police chief said on Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. Zalmay Oryakhail said the fight continued since Monday night in which five rebels had been killed and another wounded.
A huge arms cache had also been seized, he said, adding that Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP), border police and National Directorate of Security (NDS) took part in the fight.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban a spokesman, claimed killing ten security personnel and injuring ten others. One Taliban fighter was killed and five others injured in the firefight.
Separately, at least three civilians have been killed in roadside blast on Tuesday afternoon in eastern Ibrahim Khail area, Oryakhail said, adding that all the three persons belonged to same family.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
