Taliban shadow district chief, 3 police dead in clash
TALUQAN (Pajhwok): Three Afghan Local Policemen (ALP) and Taliban’s shadow district chief were killed and seven other militants wounded when rebels stormed police check in Darqad district in northern Takhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Sunatullah Taimoor, the governor’s spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News that militants stormed ALP check posts late Monday night and in the ensuing battle three policemen were killed and another wounded.
However, in retaliatory fire, police gunned down Taliban’s designated district chief and seven other militants, he added.
Sher Dil, a local resident, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban mounted attack on police check post in the area and it was first such attack during last one year.
Meanwhile, the governor spokesman said security forces regained control of some areas in Khwaja Ghar district.
The military operation lasted for three hours, he said, adding he did not know about casualties suffered by militants.
Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
