Scores of rebels dead in Faryab airstrike
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): At least 23 insurgents, including six foreigners, have been killed in Afghan force airstrike in the Pashtunkot district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Saturday.
Maj. Raza Raza, spokesman for the 209th Shahin Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News insurgents were targeted by shelling through helicopters in the Dilbi locality.
Seventeen Afghan Taliban and six Pakistani and Uzbek nationals were perished in the strike while forces seized 30 motorcycles, he added.
According to Reza, the group of Taliban wanted to storm the district headquarters of Khoistanat.
But Taliban rejected the killing of their men and termed the claims of security officials as baseless and untrue.
Earlier, the Khohistanat administrative chief had said that Taliban were preparing for a group attack on the district headquarters.
Governor Mohammadullah Batash said Pakistanis spearheaded insurgency in Faryab.
