KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon won their opening match against Holland by 32 runs in the ICC Twenty20 Worldinfo-icon Cup qualifiers round, an official said on Thursday.

Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the Netherlands won the toss and invited Afghanistan to bat first in the 20 overs match, the second competition of the event.

The Afghans played all the overs and lost eight wickets and set Holland a 163 runs target, with Samiullah Shinwari contributing 44 runs, Mohammad Nabi and Najib Zadran 33 each.

Hotak said the Netherlands could not reach the target and were bundled out for 130 runs, thus Afghanistan won the match by 32 runs.

For Afghanistan, Sharfuddin Ashraf and Daulat Zadran shared three wickets apiece while Hamid Hassan clinched one. Ashraf was the man of the match.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board congratulated the Afghans over the important victory.

The national side is due to face the UAE in their second match of the tournament tomorrow.

Fourteen teams are participating in the qualifying round. The first match of the event was played between the hosts Scotland and the UAE. The Scots won the match.
