First-ever women’s football event being organised
To the effect, an agreement was signed on Thursday between the Afghanistan Football Federation and the Roshan telecommunications company.
Karamuddin Karim, the federation head, said the Roshan company had once again decided to sponsor the premier league for the next three years.
He praised the leading telecom company’s contribution and assistance to develop the game in Afghanistan.
He said the company’s assistance with the federation had resulted in professionalising football and giving a source of entertainment to the war-weary Afghans.
Roshan human resources official Sherin Rahmani said their support for the football federation was aimed at enabling the Afghan footballers to bring laurels to the country at national and international levels.
“Extending its contract for three years as co-sponsor of the Roshan Afghanistan Premier League reflects our continued commitment to creating opportunities for the youth and Afghanistan’s development,” she said.
Moby Media Group chief executive and the premier league commissioner, Shafique Gawhari, said the Roshan company from the day one had been assisting them in conducting the league and would be with them for the next three years.
He said the league season would be shown on the television like the previous seasons, but the difference in the upcoming event was that there would be women’s football tournament at the end.
The Roshan football league has the support of the international governing body of football, FIFA, and the Asian Football Federation. All the matches are played in a new 5,000-seater football stadium in the capital.
