3 security personnel, 10 rebels dead in Khwaja Ghar clashes
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): As many as 10 insurgents and three security forces men have been killed and eight rebels and two security personnel wounded after intense gun battle between them in Khwaja Ghar district in northern Takhar province, an official said on Friday.
Maj. Abdul Khalil Asir, police spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the injured security men were shifted to a hospital in critical condition.
Mohammad Shafiq, a resident of the locality, said the firefight started in different areas since Thursday. “We hear heavy and small weapons fire and we are unable to go outside of our homes,” he said, fearing the district might fall to Taliban if government failed to send reinforcements.
Militants confirmed killing of a security official in the clash. They claimed that 13 Afghan soldiers and two Taliban fighters had been wounded in the gun battle.
Police rejected Taliban claim as baseless and concocted. Security situation turned violent Khwaja Ghar district when Taliban captured Dasht-e-Archi district in Kunduz, paving way for rebels to enter there.
