Afghanistan thrash UAE, top Group B
Afghanistan became the first team of the tournament to win two consecutive matches and top the group B with four points and a healthy run-rate.
The last match of Day Two, the UAE elected to bat first against Afghanistan after winning the toss. The Emiratis set the Afghans a 165-run target losing six wickets in 20 overs under immense pressure.
Afghanistan achieved target with eight wickets in hands. Muhammad Shahzad, who top-scored with 74 runs off just 37 balls was declared the man of the match.
Shahzad hit five sixes and seven fours before being caught by Ahmad Raza. Similarly, Captain Asghar Stanikzai scored 44 runs off 33 balls and remained not out. He hit three sixes and two fours. Samiullah Shinwari contributed 30 runs from 23 balls.
Hamid Hassan and Mirwais Ashraf took two wickets each and Dawlat Zadran one.
Day Two of the ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers ended with key victories for Afghanistan, Nepal, Kenya and hosts Ireland.
