UN links financial aid to electoral reforms
Nicholas Haysom raised the issue on the sidelines of a meeting with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah here in Kabul.
A statement from the CEO’s office said the dignitaries also discussed security situations of the north following CEO’s visit to the provinces.
Haysom urged government to introduce reforms in laws and electoral bodies and that without inclusive reforms the donor countries would not finance Afghanistan’s elections.
Earlier, the CEO had promised electoral reforms commission would start work soon and present their suggestions to the government.
The UN special representative also welcomed first direct talks between Afghan government and Taliban representatives in Islamabad.
