3 police killed, 5 wounded in Helmand suicide attack
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Three policemen were killed and five others wounded when a suicide bomber on foot detonated his explosives on approaching a security post in the capital of southern Helmand province on Wednesday evening.
The attack took place in the Bolan area of Lashkargah when the police were preparing to break the fast at a check-post, Helmand police chief Brig. Gen. Nabi Jan Mullakhel told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said four policemen were wounded in the blast.
But an official at the Emergency-run hospital in Lashkargah said they had been delivered three dead bodies and five wounded police personnel.
Giving an eyewitness account, Azizullah, said the police were sitting on the side of the road to break the fast when the bomber approached them.
The police recognised the attacker and opened fire at him, but he detonated his explosives in injured condition, the eyewitness said.
The Taliban have said nothing about the blast so far.
