KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghans and Chinese holding political passports could travel to the two countries without visas, officials said on Wednesday.

It was announced at a joint press conference by Afghan Foreign Ministry official Mohammad Aman Amin and Chinese ambassador to Kabul Ding Guoyu.

Amin said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been reached with China on the matter during President Ashraf Ghani’s visit to the People Republic.

Last year, the president who visited China, inked several MoUs on political, economic and cultural relations with China.

Amin said it was a moment of pride for Afghanistaninfo-icon that political passport holders would be traveling to China without visas.

The Chinese ambassador termed the MoU a sign of improved bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ding Guoyu said China was ready to enhance its diplomatic ties with Afghanistan. He said the visa free travels on political passports would last for two years.
