Kabul police thwart Eidul Fitr car bomb
KABUL (Pajhwok): Security forces seized a vehicle full of explosives in the central capital Kabul thanks to extraordinary security measures put in place for Eid holidays, an official said on Saturday.
The vehicle was seized on Friday, the first day of Eidul Fitr, in Dast Panjchari area in the limits of the 15th police district and the bomb was defused by a police engineering team, Kabul police spokesman Abdul Zarin told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said no one had been arrested in connection with the seizure, but a search had been launched to arrest the perpetrators. He said nothing about a possible target and the quantity of the explosives.
Security officials had assured of tight security measures in and around Kabul city during Eid holiday, asking residents to observe the festival without any fear.
Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi had told a press conference ahead of Eid that all recreation parks, mosques, streets and playgrounds would be under a tight security blanket.
