Hong Kong edge past Afghanistan in last-ball thriller
While Chasing 162 and needing 16 off the last over, Hong Kong managed to win the photo-finish duel by five wickets in Dublin, Ireland.
Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat in the 20 overs match and set Hong Kong 162 runs target for the loss of seven wickets.
Nawroz Mangal played a brilliant innings, contributing 55 runs to his side. While Asghar Stanikzai made 29 runs, Samiullah Shinwari 21 and Shehzad Mohammadi 20.
Hotak said Hong Kong chased the target on the last ball of the game. Shahpur Zadran took two wickets and Mohammad Nabi and Mirwais shared one each.
The victory confirms Hong Kong’s entry into the ICC Twenty20 World Cup to be played in India next year.
