Taliban take control of area after police retreat
PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Taliban fighters have taken control of the Baiseqal locality of Baghlan-i-Markazi district in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Thursday.
The area was earlier controlled by police, but after their withdrawal, militants captured it, police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Jabbar Purdil said, adding security forces had retreated from the area on a tactical basis after consultation with senior military officials.
Located at a 15 kilometre distance from the district centre, the Baiseqal locality has 15 villages where as many as 1,000 families are living.
Shamsul Haq Barakzai, a provincial council member, said pulling out police from Baseiqal meant giving advantage to the Taliban. He said the Taliban could easily move to neighbouring Kunduz and Samangan provinces from Baiseqal.
