Afghan cricket teams performance widely praised
As many as 14 second class cricket nations participated in T-20 world cup qualifying round matches in Scotland and Ireland.
Afghanistan qualified to T-20 World Cup in 2016 but could not qualify for the second round of the tournament.
Matiullah Abid, a journalist and analysts, praised Afghan cricket team’s achievement in the tournament. He said: “Afghanistan is a real winner of the tournament because its team has beaten both Scotland and Ireland.”
Afghanistan has lost only single group match which two remained draw due to rain therefore stood third in the group, he added. Afghanistan is the only team in the tournament, scoring above 200 runs in a match, he recalled.
Cricket remained the only game which united the nation and blessed the nation with happiness and joy therefore the cricket fans should support their team, Abid added.
Rahim Gul Sarwan, cricket analyst, blamed bad weather for confining Afghan team from reaching semi-finals. “Afghanistan played well against Hong Kong but the last two balls changed the result,” he added.
Zarab Shah, head of Loba Cricket Group, criticized Afghan team for not playing up to the expectations and said: “Afghanistan was one of the favorite teams in the tournament but could not win the tournament.”
Farid Hotak, spokesman of Afghan Cricket Board, said that the team was well prepared for the tournament but could not reach second round because of bad weather and rain. Afghan cricket team had devised a strategy for 2016 T-20 world cup, he added.
Afghanistan has played 2010, 2012 and 2014 WT20 Cups.
