Scores of prisoners released from prison in Herat
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): As many as 80 prisoners have been released from a prison in western Herat province in compliance with presidential decree on the eve of of Eid-ul-Fitr, an official said on Monday.
Brig. Gen. Abdullah Aziz, director prison, told Pajhwok Afghan News the inmates had been told about their imminent release in a formal ceremony.
He said the prisoners released from the facility included 10 children, three women and 67 men.
According to Azizi, the prisoners who completed more than half a period of their punishment were eligible to avail the facility.
Earlier, 400 inmates were freed from the same jail in compliance with presidential decree on the eve of Mujahidin Day.
