7 Takhar districts may be overrun by Taliban, PC warns
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): The head of northern Takhar provincial council feared seven districts might be overrun by the Taliban due to a shortage of security forces in the province.
Esmatullah Qurbani, head of the provincial council, told a press conference Dash Qala, Yangi Qala, Khwaja Bahuddin, Durqad, Chah-i-Aab, and Rastaq districts could easily come under Taliban control.
Links of other six districts with Taloqan would be cut off if Khwaja Ghar fell to militants, he warned, saying security forces should focus on the strategic town.
The number of security forces was small while there is lack of coordination among security forces in Khawaja Ghar district, Qurbani said.
Col. Mohammad Agha Dawood, the deputy police chief, rejected Qurban’s assertions and said the Taliban were not strong enough to capture any district. “We have enough forces for the security of Khwaja Ghar district,” he said , rejecting the claims about lack of coordination among the security forces.
