Unidentified gunmen torch school in Ghazni
GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have torched Imam Ahad High school in Khashak area in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Wednesday.
Nisar Ahmad Azadzai, deputy director education, told Afghan Pajhwok News unidentified armed men set boy and girls’ school on fire. The fire engulfed three classrooms completely, he added.
“The school is only off for today alone and the students will regularly resume their studies from tomorrow,” he said, adding around 1200 girls and boys were enrolled in the school.
Ali Hussain, a resident of the locality, said unidentified gunmen set the school on fire at around 3:00 am last night and “we rushed to extinguish the fire.”
Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, said: “Setting on fire or closing schools are against the group’s policy.” He ensured that Taliban also tried to find the culprit and would punish them.
Four years back, unidentified men had torched the same school.
