Dozens of rebels dead, wounded in Faryab gun-battle
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Hundreds of militants from western Ghor and northern Sar-i-Pul provinces attacked security forces in Faryab, ith dozens of assailants killed and and wounded in the ensuing firefight, an official claimed on Friday.
Abdul Razzaq, the Grezwal district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News a commander of an uprising group was also killed along with two security personnel and Taliban took control of Shash Qara area.
Naqibullah Tofan, the uprising group leader, said the rebels had torched six houses of local residents.
Maj. Mohammad Raza, spokesman for the 209th Shahin Military Corps, confirmed armed militants attacked several check posts and the battle continued for several hours in Qisar district.
Around 12 fighters including an Uzbek were killed and scores wounded in the gunbattle, he said, adding that two policemen were also among the dead. Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
