2 civilians mistakenly shot dead by police in Herat
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Two civilians have been killed by police and bodyguards of the Ulema Council’s head in western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.
The governor’s spokesman Ehsanullah Hayat told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place after a car crashed into the vehicle of the Ulema Council head in Herat City last night.
After the incident, the men attempted to escape but police and bodyguards fired upon them, leaving two civilians dead, the spokesman said.
Five of the bodyguards and four policemen had been detained in connection with the incident, he said.
A security official wishing anonymity said the shooting took place when Ulema Council chief Khuda Dad Salih was on his way home. His bodyguards mistakenly fired at the men, whom they mistook for terrorists, he added.
