5 smugglers detained with 1.5 tons of drugs in Nimroz
ZARANJ (Pajhwok): More than 1,400 kilograms of narcotics have been seized and five alleged smugglers detained in connection to drugs trafficking in southwestern Nimroz province, an official said Saturday.
Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Dilawar Shah Dilawar told Pajhwok Afghan News that 1,420 kilograms of drugs were seized followed by a clash in Chagni area of Zaranj City, the capital of the province.
Five smugglers, with one of them wounded in the clash, were arrested and a machine gun, two Kalashnikovs, a large amount of ammunition and a car were also impounded from the smugglers. Police suffered no casualties during the clash.
In another incident, Dilawar said that three policemen were wounded when a bomb hit a ranger car on Zaranj-Dilaram highway in Alili area.
The incident took place near the area where a clash with the smugglers had occurred.
