Rocket attack on Faizabad foiled; NDS officer killed

FAIZABAD/CHARIKARinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Security forces on Saturday foiled a possible rocket attack on Faizabad, the capital of northeastern Badakhshan province, an intelligence official said.

The National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) official, who wished anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News 23 BM-1 rockets were found ready for launch in Jozgon area on the outskirts of Faizabad on Saturday. He said no one had been arrested in connection with the incident.

A resident of Faizabad, Abdul Karim, said they were happy that the plot to target Faizabad people had been thwarted. “Faizabad people live in peace. Those who disrupt the security environmentinfo-icon are our enemies.”

Militants hold sway in parts of Warduj and Juram districts and an Afghan military base was also captured by insurgents some 10 days ago.

Elsewhere, an NDS personnel was killed by militants in central Parwan province.

Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman Mamozai said the NDS officer was ambushed in Tatmadra area of Charikar, the provincial capital, last night.

An investigation by Afghan forces was underway to arrest the perpetrators, he said.

The Talibaninfo-icon have so far not commented on the incidents.
