Ghani discusses latest developments with top officials

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Satisfied with his foot surgery in Germany, President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday discussed with senior administration officials the overall situation in the country after Talibaninfo-icon chief Mullahinfo-icon Omar's demise..

Four days ago, the president had left for Germany for the medical treatment of his foot injury on advice from his doctors. Through a video conference in the afternoon, he spoke with top officials on the new developments.

Earlier, the Presidential Palace tweeted Ghani had undergone a successful foot surgery in Germany and that his healthinfo-icon condition was good . He suffered injuries to his foot while marking National Olympic Day in Kabul.

The leader conferred with senior government officials, including Chief Executive Office Abdullah Abdullah, the country’s overall situation, a statement from the Presidential Palace said

Other participants of the conference included Second Vice-President Sarwar Danish, Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Interior Minister Noorul Haq Ulumi, National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar and spymaster Rahmatullah Nabil.

About the recent developments, the president said: “We think about a good future for Afghanistaninfo-icon and our goal is to achieve dignified and durable peace in the country.”

Ghani said he had been in contact with the Pakistani leadership on peace and stability in the region and that he would not shy away from making every effort in this regard.

He said CEO Abdullah Abdullah would attend the inaugural ceremony for the New Suez Canal in Egypt on August 6. President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi will give the start signal for the new project in the presence of several heads of state and government.

Ashraf Ghani also issued necessary directives to Foreign Minister Rabbani about preparations for the upcoming visit of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow to Afghanistan.
