Senior Taliban commander among 4 dead in drone strike
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A US drone strike has killed four militants, including a senior Taliban leader, in Barkai Barak district in central Logar province, an official says on Sunday.
Mohammad Rahim Amin, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Maulvi Habib-u-Rahman, a senior Taliban commander, and his three associates were killed in an unmanned drone attack late Saturday night in Chalozai area.
The slain commander, he alleged was involved in anti-state activities in the area for the last few years. ”Security situation will improve in the area after the death of Maulvi Habibullah,” he hoped.
Hamidullah, a resident of the locality, confirmed the attack took place at around 8: 00 pm on Saturday night. “We came to know in the morning that Maulvi Habibullah and other militants had been killed in the strike,” he added.
Meanwhile, the district chief said that security forces had killed three militants who used to extort money from commuters on main the highway in Qala Taqi area.
Taliban have not yet commented on the incidents but claimed killing two policemen and injuring four others in an attack on a check post.
