3,600 provided with artificial limbs, says Red Crescent

Aug 04, 2015 - 16:45

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 3,600 people who have lost body organs to war have been provided with artificial limbs, a Red Crescent (RC) official said on Tuesday.

Director of Red Crescent Ahmad Basel Halaq told a press conference his organisation had assisted more than 6,000 people with artificial limbs in last six years.

“The number of disabled persons would increase had the fighting continued with the same pace,” he said, adding that RC had supported around 1,300 families with edible items and around 200 security forces were trained against Principle of War during the current year.

RC had provided more than 2000 injured with assistance, Halaq said, demanding the warring parties to follow principle of war which had been ignored during the war.

Deputy Governor Mohammad Jan Rasoolyar asked RC to expend activities in the province. Rasoolyar had allocated a land for construction of office building in the city. He reassured that Afghan security forces would follow rules and principle of wars during the fight.

Dr, Esmatullah Qazizada, a senior RC official, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they provided artificial limbs to war and polio affected persons and more than 100 persons mostly war affected contacted them on daily basis.

RC had the capacity to reach to needed and affected persons on time, he added.
