8 militants dead in Sherzad district firefight
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least eight Taliban have been killed and 12 others wounded during search operation in Sherzad district in eastern Nangarhar, a security official said on Tuesday.
Col. Mohammad Nauman Hatafi, spokesman of 201st Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News that anti-militants operation against Daesh and Taliban fighters had been ongoing to purge Khogyani area of rebels.
“At least eight fighters have been killed and 12 others wounded in Khwazakhel, Naukorkhel, Hashamkhel, Swazedalay Tank and Gandhak areas, which are also cleared from anti-state elements,” he added.
Asadullah, a resident of Kooz Bahar district, said the number of security forces was enough and they used both heavy and small weapons against militants.
He did not have exact toll into casualties inflicted on security forces or armed rebels but said that insurgents had great influx into the area in recent days.
However, the governor office avoided to speak on the ongoing military operation but confirmed that achievements had been made by the security forces.
Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, said that four security forces had been killed in a blast in Khogyani district.
