Iran extends visas for 450,000 Afghan refugees
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation Affairs on Wednesday said Iran had extended temporary visas for 450,000 Afghan refugees there by another four months.
A statement from the ministry said the development came after an Afghan delegation visited Iran and raised the issue with the authorities there.
Currently the 450,000 Afghans are living in Iran on temporary visas, another 840,000 possess legal documents and 90,000 more hold Afghan passports.
Recent reports suggest the authorities in Iran have increased restrictions on Afghan refugees, limiting their access to education, work and other facilities.
However, Iranian government officials recently announced lifting some of the restrictions by allowing Afghan children to continue studying in state-run schools.
