Logar suicide attack leaves civilians among 6 dead
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the building of police's Quick Response Team (QRT), leaving six civilians dead and 26 civilians, including 11 doctors and three policemen, wounded in central Logar province on Thursday, the governor said.
Mohammad Halim Fedaee told Pajhwok Afghan News that at least three policemen and three civilians were killed and 23 others including 11 doctors and two children wounded when the bomber targeted the QRT facility at around 7:00 am.
“Most of the wounded persons are medics since the explosion occurred near a provincial hospital,” he said, adding that windowpanes of around 50 percent of residential houses in the city smashed.
Col. Qari Mohammad Wara, a senior police officer, also confirmed the attack and said three policemen wounded.
Ashiqullah Majidi, a doctor in civil hospital, said that 23 persons including 11 doctors had been injured in the attack. Most parts of the building had been damaged in the attack therefore the wounded persons were shifted to a hospital in Mohammad Aghi district, he said.
Noor Zaman,a resident of the locality, said the blast inflicted heavy casualties on police and civilians but he had no figures.
As usual, Taliban claimed credit for the attack. Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, said that Abdul Hamid Khalil, a resident of southeastern Paktika, carried out the attack, which caused huge fatalities among police personnel.
