Projects worth 20m afs launched in Kunar
ASADABAD/MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Rural Development and Rehabilitation on Sunday launched work on two reconstruction projects estimated to cost nearly 20 million afghanis in eastern Kunar province, an official said.
Jaffar Jabbarkhel, the Kunar Rural Development Director, told Pajhwok Afghan News one of the projects was the construction of a building for the provincial office of the National Solidarity Programme (NSP).
The building would have 16 rooms and other allied facilities, he said. The second project is a retaining wall being constructed in Hijrat village on the outskirts of Asadabad, the provincial capital.
The wall will be 148 metres long, two metres thick and four metres high.
Jabbarkhel said the two projects would cost 19.5 million afghanis being provided by the Ministry of Rural Development and Rehabilitation and would take two years to complete.
Kunar Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai, who inaugurated the projects, told Pajwhok Afghan News that they were trying to construct buildings for departments which lacked them.
Also on Sunday, Governor Kalimzai addressed a big gathering in the Sarkano district, pledging to root out mafia and drug smuggling gangs.
He said such groups and individuals would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The governor’s spokesman, Ghani Musammam, said the gathering in Sarkano district was aimed at creating awareness about narcotics.
The governor said people’s demands would be addressed as planned and in this regard, he would knock at the doors of every central government departments and aid giving agencies.
The governor urged local residents to send their sons to join the national armed forces for the defence of their motherland.
The residents assured their complete cooperation with the provincial leadership in maintaining security, preventing poppy cultivation and cooperating with security forces.
Elsewhere in central Maidan Wardak province, local officials said that construction work on a new building for a health centre would be launched soon.
The 17 million afghanis project was being implemented in the Narkh district, said Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman.
He said the building was being constructed by the Ministry of Counternarcotics and would take one year to complete.
