Aug 12, 2015 - 20:37

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Reconstructioninfo-icon work on the road between Greshk and Nawzad districts of southern Helmand province was launched on Wednesday.

Public Works Director Ahlullah Obaidi, who launched the project, told Pajhwok Afghan News a total of 45 kilometres portion of the road would be repaired at a cost of 255 million afghanis being provided by the Worldinfo-icon Bank.

He said today they initiated asphalt work on a 15-km part of the road in the first phase which would take 14 months to complete.

Similar work would be launched another 15-km portion of the road in the second phase and the rest would be completed in phase-wise.

Governor Mirza Khan Rahimi said more such projects were in the pipeline and warned the construction company against using substandard materials.

He said the company had been assured all possible facilities particularly security.

Mohammad Fahim Musazoy, the Greshk district chief, said the road’s reconstruction would not only solve traveling issues but would also leave positive effect on security of the area.

A resident, Mirza Mohammad, accused the Talibaninfo-icon of planting roadside bombs on the road, in which civilians were often killed. He said the road’s reconstruction would facilitate carrying patients to hospital.
