NSC approves reform strategy for local police
KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Security Council (NSC) on Wednesday approved a draft strategy for the implementation of reforms in the Afghan Local Police (ALP) force, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
It said the NSC meeting was presented reports about the country’s overall security situation by the ministers concerned. The meeting evaluated across the country threats posed by the enemies of the Afghanistan people and issued necessary directives to the national security forces in this regard, the statement said.
Later, the meeting conferred on sending a delegation to Pakistan with special guidelines.
The delegation comprising Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Acting Defence Minister Masoum Stanakzai, the National Directorate of Security chief, Rahmatullah Nabil, is expected to leave for Pakistan on Thursday. The delegation will discuss with Pakistani officials future cooperation between the two countries against terrorism.
The NSC also discussed a reform strategy for the Afghan Local Police and approved it after Interior Minister Noorul Ullumi’s recommendation. However, the statement has no details of the reform strategy.
The statement said the NSC approved a memorandum of understanding between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and a cooperation schedule for joint Afghanistan-Iran committees, but provided no details.
